Our Commitment to You

Simon, whilst working as a family doctor in the NHS, has been advocating the evidence-based health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet and Extra Virgin Olive Oil for more than twenty years.

He has written numerous books and is regarded as an authority on the subject. Simon is passionate about communicating ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle and has dedicated his career to practising and teaching the life-changing benefits of adopting a Mediterranean Diet with high polyphenol extra virgin olive oil at its heart.

Those benefits include the presence of the healthy fat oleic acid which lowers cholesterol, and also important compounds called polyphenols in some exceptional extra virgin olive oils which protects the cholesterol from "oxidative stress" - the damaging changes in blood vessels which lead to coronary heart disease.

The European Food Safety Authority has recognised the power of the properties of extra virgin olive oil with a minimum of 250mg/kg total polyphenols consumed at 20mls per day.

There is evidence that these protective effects are significant and achieve the desired health gains above 250mg/kg and it is generally accepted that a high polyphenol oil will contain levels above 300mg/kg.

Surveys show that many consumers are still unaware of the health benefits of high polyphenol extra virgin olive oil, with vegetable oils and the majority low polyphenol olive oils continuing to dominate the market.

In partnership with award-winning producer Picualia, we are able to bring you exquisite tasting extra virgin olive oil throughout the year which exceeds these requirements, at an affordable price.

Together we constantly monitor the production from selected farmers who contribute to the cooperative at the modern and well-equipped mill at Bailen in Spain's Andalusia province.

Polyphenols are maximal in certain varieties of olive, such as our picual variety, and careful farming, milling and storage practices are needed to ensure optimum levels for taste, yield and health. Nature also plays a part, and levels will naturally vary between harvests.

We have designed the first regular all-season testing protocol to ensure the consistency of quality of our extra virgin olive oil.

We use different methodologies to test through the year and when the extra virgin olive oil is bottled. With a technique called HPLC, used by researchers to study the effects of polyphenols, we can identify all the polyphenols.

Our November 2024 oil has total polyphenols level measured at 572mg/kg at harvest, ensuring our minimum high polyphenol levels from careful storage to bottling, within the best before dates through the year.

We count the polyphenols because the polyphenols count.

Extra virgin olive oil tastes best and contains its highest levels of polyphenols when fresh. The oil is stored in its secure and controlled environment until we bottle our extra virgin olive, ready for immediate sale.

Our best before date recommendations reflect our dedication to meeting these standards.

We are proud to bring you the first UK Trading Standards approved extra virgin olive oil which is Positively Good for You and Heart Healthy, with our commitment to quality, taste and integrity.
